the nanny - oh yeah
A musical meme (kinda):

My sam_bluesky brings all the boys to the yard
and they're like
it's better than yours.

Which song was this lyric from?

Get your own lyrics:

DAMN RIGHT, IT'S BETTER THAN YOURS.

Way to go, self.)

manly sci-fi is dissappearing. O NOES D:

torchwood - ianto explanation
The war on science fiction. Have you heard of it? If not, then you're lucky.

Basically it says "OMG the wimenz and gays are writing | in my sci-fi!! Do not want!". And then it goes on and on about how sci-fi is about men doing things and men discovering things and men doing manly stuf flike pew-pewing aliens into oblivion, and how sad is today's sci-fi, full of fluffy nonsense and exploration of characters' feelings and dull sentimentalism.
The conclusion that the new generations will not get inspired by today's sci-fi heros (and heroines, because there are women leading ships, guys!) and we'll be doomed to use Windows 7 for like twenty years is incredibly interesting. If you ask me, it's a tad sad that while male heterosexual men can't be inspired by leading female characters or by sci-fi with other things that laser-shooting startships.
The amount of times the article states that "men do things" is astounding. I sensee a drinking game coming.
I enjoy the subjacent(?) idea that only manly men discover things and provide evolution to our technology. Is, in a way, kind of sci-fi territory.

At least I don't like the name change of Sci-fi channel. I guess we can agree on that? ("Syfy"? Really? In Spain we still mock RAE for trying to force the population to accept "cederrón" as the correct spanish word to say "cd-rom").

The comments are also worth of your attention. I feel sorry for Whedon, seems like men hates him ("Whedon being one of the biggest manginas working in tv". Mangina? I'm not sure I want to know) and women don't like how he manages his character's relationships (bitter ending, someone dying, etc). Also, poor Merlin :( (Hey, they acknowledged strong female characters, that's good. Until you realise they think it's a bad thing).

"Anyway, sometimes men ought to be able to enjoy the company of other men without women being involved from time to time."
I don't think this means what you think it means.
Or, my slash googles are still working perfectly.
You chose. Either way, I win.

"I think we should all be concerned with good quality, not feminine-masculine dividing lines."
Earth Logic is not welcome in this article.

This reasoning is interesting:
"And I can’t think of a better example of ‘men going their own way’ than the standard computer geeks. Heck, Isaac Newton never dated, and laid the foundation for physics up until Einstein…"
If you got laid you ain't gonna discover a damn, sugah.

On a totally unrelated note, Issue 16 of city of Heroes goes live. Here is the official trailer (I think, I haven't even open the link. Google!reader can be such a tease sometimes). Rejoice with me!

La nueva issue trae muchos cambios interesantes. )

Also, english is hard but I'll find the words.

Yay! LoudTwitter is back!

What a surprise, I didn't expect it at all. It seems it's been running for some days, but I haven't realized it until now because, well, it's today I've entered my journal :p (to edit the previous entry in order to add The Pic).

(Twitter-compilation entries will be back, f-locked in order to not flood / spam your f-lists. Just to avoid the constant non-sense that I tend to say there. Not that normal journal entries are So Profound And Meaningful, but at least they consist of more than an idea trying to fit in 140 characters -or less-. "Trying to" being the key words here)

Sam: my sister is awesome.
Sister's mail: body: I've found this icon, thought you'd like it.
Sam: MY SISTER WINS AT LIFE. *hands "you win an internet" coupon to Sister*
(I've had to use my mad interwebz skillz to recover the lj-user who made this icon via the url of the icon, so after all Sister only wins at life in lowercase, she doesn't write down who makes the icons she takes. Even if I brainwash her into doing it)

¿Ah, no?

*chan-chan-CHAAAN*) y luego a "Gigamesh". Después... pues no sé qué haremos.

You can give the impression you are a bit scattered, but you probably know what you are doing and why you are doing it. Others might observe you starting several projects without finishing them today. Nevertheless, you can ultimately have the last laugh when all your separate tasks come together with finesse. But this won't happen by itself, so you'll need to stay focused on your final goal throughout the day.
I like how it says "you probably know what you're doing and why", because that's true for me 24/7.

Another Friday, another meme! This one stolen shamelessly from [info]jlarinda:

List 10 of your favorite characters from different fandoms, and ask people to spot patterns in your choices, and if they're so inclined, to draw conclusions about you based on the patterns they've spotted.

Actually, I'm going to split this meme in two, because I have too much favorite characters :D
* Miyazawa Yukino (KareKano)
* Naga, the White Serpent (Slayers)
* Piper Halliwell (Charmed)
* Fran Fine (The Nanny)
* Mary Cherry (Popular)
* Donna Noble (Doctor Who) (I'm sorry, Martha :( )
* Mizuno Ami (Sailor Moon)
* Hermione Granger (Harry Potter)
* Jean Grey (X-men)
* Willow Rosenberg (Buffy, the Vampire Slayer)

* Ianto Jones (Torchwood)
* Data (Star Trek: The Next Generation)
* Tom Paris (Star Trek: Voyager)
* Seiichiro Aoki (X-1999)
* Icchan (Angelic Layer)
* Kimihiro Watanuki (xxxHOLiC)
* Joxer (Xena, Warrior Princess) (Ok, so perhaps this is a tie with Autolycus and Gabrielle)
* Yasunori Kuroki (Nodame Cantabile) (Kuroki-ku~n, but the nerdy one at France is also good)
* Arthur (Merlin) (Yes, over Merlin. In more than one sense :p (but they flip-flop, so it's not like Arthur only tops))
* Marvin, the Paranoid Andriod (The Hitchhiker Guide to the Galaxy) (Yeah, it's a machine and doesn't respond to the male/female category, but he had a male voice, so I'm going with that, ok?)

You know what's strange? I enjoyed Mai HiME and Mai-Otome (and its OVAs), but I have no favourite characters in these series.

As a reward, if you do this, you can post this meme on your journal too! EXCELSIOR!!

Let's have some funny last-working-day-of-the-week! :D

new iGoogle page

iGoogle receives new functionalities and looks (sort of).

It's all fine and dandy until you want to hide that new column. I manage my iGoogle tabs in a way that allows me to have everything I want in the screen. Every tab has its functionality and theme. And that's for a reason. I don't need a list of all my tabs and all its gadgets.

I'm sure some people will find it useful. But for those who doesn't really need it, what about some way to hide that new lateral menu? I'd like to regain that width, it makes my iGoogle!working area less clustered, and I prefer it that way.

I'm saying it because I can't find a way to hide that column. Even in the tour page with detail information about the nav page there's nothing about it.

If there is a way to hide that nav, can you please point me out where is it? If there is no way to hide it, then I guess I'll have to learn to appreciate it.

These kind of forced changes are ugly, specially because google has the technology and knowledge (hello, gwt) to allow the option of minimizing a lateral navigation column.
Way to go, google.

edit: after reading this, and all the complaints (and realizing that, again, this was launched almost nine months ago and we get it nowm, go Spain), I'm pretty sure they won't rollback to a previous version.
I'm surprised they haven't yet implement an option to minimize the sidebar. I'm not even talking about toggling on the new or old version of iGoogle (I don't think that would be productive or easy to implement) or allowing an alternate version that emulates the old tab system. So that leads me to think they won't make this change until a new version of iGoogle is roll out or... well, they won't make this change period.

Yesterday I realized why Firefox was running so slow lately. Specially when I tried to type an url. It needed so much time just to tell me "no, I don't have this url listed in my history, please keep typing" that it was not funny.
I opened the history window and, well, there were like 38k items.
no wonder Firefox took its time to check if it knew the url!
Now it runs smoothly and starts a lot faster.
Sometimes I fail at technology *facepalm*

You cannot stop the words from buzzing through your mind now, even if they don't bring you any closer to a solution. Messenger Mercury, your ruling planet, is hyperactive from its alignment with exuberant Jupiter. It becomes easier for you as your stream of consciousness transforms from turbulent waters into a gently meandering river. And although your angst fades, you still might not decide on a plan of action for another few days.

Sam: yes.
Aww, bless.

I think I'll refrain from watching the rest of Torchwood as soon as it's aired. I'm just not ready to read all the stuff the fandom is generating. Too much to think about. And I can see wank on the horizon, after yesterday's chapter.
I'll watch all of it this weekend, probably, when I'm allowed (by myself) to vegetate and do fandom stuff (like read entries about Torchwood Season 3 (is it even a season? some people call it by the name, "Children of Earth"; others say "season three"; others just "torchoowd")). I will be dead of awesome, so don't expect me to comment it (even as incoherently as I tend to do from time to time).

Meanwhile, weather has improved. No rain, no storm; just cloudy. Air is fresh and the atmosphere is a bit cleaner; that's why rain is good for us.
Of course, some people here in my office now are bitching about how cooooold it is out there and whyyyyy are we having so lowww temperatures and generally in need of a whaaaambulance.

Meanwhile meanwhile )

Life in general seems easier for you today, even if all your unresolved issues remain the same. But you don't have to worry about them for a while and that can ease the tension enough so you can enjoy the present moment. Nevertheless, you must be careful that your imagination doesn't carry you too far away now or you could miss the love that is right in front of you.
That first line. Spot on. The second one? Gave me hope. The third one? Didn't see that coming.

Following this tutorial I've been able to make a RSS feed for my lj's f-list. I'm able to see f-locked entries (thanks to the auth parameter) and add filters to the url, so all seems to work ok.

But, I can't add it as a rss feed here at dw. I don't know if it's because of the auth parameter or for other reasons.

I wonder if there's an easy way to set up a feed here that allows you to see your friends locked entries at livejournal.
